Today, Oct 12, I would normally be giving Neil a call to wish him a Happy Birthday, reminisce about some co-ed softball stories and try to catch up.  Now, I just smile about old times.  We all miss him dearly.  Brenda Bray, NJ.

I only learned today of Neil's passing and am totally heartbroken.  I have known Neil since 1982 and although I moved to CA in 2004, we always kept in touch.  He has always had a very special place in my heart.  We bowled together for many, many years until I moved and we always tried to get together when I came home to visit.  This pic is only one of the many teams we bowled on together, and was taken on one of my trips home.  He was always such a good friend to me and my daughter Erika, and my grandson Zay adored him!  I last saw him at my momma's funeral in May 2018 - he would always be there for you.  Neil, you will forever be missed.  I love you always!

I first met Neil in the fall of 1993 when his company had hired me, he had been in Austin at the time. We met a week later and immediately got along.  We spent a lot of time working together and outside of the office as well.  A lot of good times.  Neil was a kind, generous and motivated man who loved his family and friends.  He was always there when you were in need and asked nothing in return.  He was very young at heart, had a great sense of humor and was never afraid to tell you what was on his mind.  Although we didn't speak as often as the old days, I appreciated the times when we did. You will be missed, my friend.

Over the years, I helped Neil with some of his business software, then typically followed with a serious round of pool and a beer afterward. Will miss him and that trademark Neil laugh...

I met Neil at SRO. He started talking to me like we had know each other for years! Always had a smile! One day at one of my contract jobs, I saw him in the hallway talking to one of my supervisors. Made me feel good when he greeted me like a lifetime friend. But, that was Neil! He always treated you like family! Love and miss you Brother!

I am still in shock at his passing. He was always larger than life. We met shooting pool at SRO. We have been friends for about 25 years now. We had some lively discussions over the years, but we always laughed in the end. He was one of the sweetest, most generous people I have ever known.  Over the past fifteen or so years in putting his 'book' together he would call me and see if I would help him. He said I was the only other person that paid as close attention to detail as he, "I only trust you with this CC"... And if he knew I wasn't working he would find a project for me to help with so I could pay bills. I am most frustrated because we always got together around Christmas to go to dinner and this year, with all that was going on, I kept putting off calling. I am most sad about that.   I have a photo from our last dinner at Trulucks. He loved that place!!  Love you much, and will miss you, Neil Bob.

I was never close to him, I knew him through a common friendship.
What always stood out to me was his desire to know goodness, kindness, generosity, and love.  I am a better man because of his challenge to change myself into those ideals.
I will always remember him.
I hope for his eternal peace.

When I first met Neil I learned quickly that I was always wrong and he was always right. He would laugh and tell me like it is.  I appreciated his frankness once I got to know him. Over the years we shared some happy times and some sad times.  Poolside watching sports and debating the outcomes, concerts, camping, Hawaii, Galveston etc. So many wonderful memories that were made unforgettable by Neil's presence. He was so proud of his kids and their journey into adulthood and careers. Neil will be in our hearts and memories forever. He will be missed!! Aloha my friend.

When Carol and I opened Scoreboard in 1986 I met Neil the first week we opened. He was looking for a place to watch his Lakers. He would come in every night they were playing.  We quickly became friends. Over the years Neil was instrumental  in different  projects with Scoreboard, Scoreboard Ot and SRO. He designed all the signs and menus over the years.  We argued sometimes  about the designs but he was always able to capture our visions. It's  been  almost 35 years since we first met.  He will be remembered as our friend and business associate. 2020 has been a tough year losing Carol and now Neil. Hold your friends and loved ones close because there are no guarantees of what tomorrow brings. Neil you will be missed!!!


I’m very sad to hear about Neil and  my condolences to his family which he was very proud of and talked about often.  He loved his Mother dearly and spoke highly of his Father, a fighter pilot and squadron leader in Vietnam.  He was also very proud of his brother who was or is an Admiral in the USN and if I recall correctly, an ex-seal.  

Neil had a good heart and will be missed by the many who knew him, worked with him, and called him friend.

Neil Taylor was a good man.  While he may have come across as a bit gruff when you first met him, deep down all Neil ever wanted to do was help people out.   Over the years I witnessed him taking people into his home who were in a bind, and give people jobs and project work to help them financially. If you needed help moving or installing something he would be the first one there.  He didn’t ask for help in return.  One time I stopped over and he was putting the finishing touches on installing a new 50 gallon water heater—in his attic. By himself he had somehow got that thing up into his attic, maneuvered it where it needed to go and got the old one down. By the time I randomly arrived he was tightening the last bolt.  And it worked perfectly with no leaks.  This is just a small sample of the goodness in Neil’s heart. Always giving, never taking.  He was a good friend, and I will miss him.
