Nathan Bryant Brunson Jr.

He was born on 04/03/1931 in Houston to Nathan B Brunson Sr. & Jonnie McMillan Brunson. He is preceded in death by his two younger brothers, John and Robert. Also proceeding him was his wife of 50 years, Bebe Leggett Brunson.

Bryant graduated from Lamar High School and Baylor University. He studied dentistry at the University of Texas Dental School in Houston and then enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed at Kelly AFG, as a Captain, practicing as a dentist and supply officer. He went on to work as a dentist for 38 years in San Antonio. Bryant was actively involved in First Baptist Church Castle Hills in San Antonio as a teacher and deacon. Upon retirement, he returned to Houston and was an active member of First Baptist Church and later, Tallowood Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon.

After the death of his first wife, he married a lifelong friend, Nellen Kennon Hughens, who survives him. They enjoyed 19 years of loving companionship in Houston doing volunteer work, singing in choir, fishing at the lake, and traveling.

He is also survived by his children Cathlyn Lander, Beverly Brunson, Ralph Kirk Brunson (Rochelle), Nathan B. Brunson III (Cynthia); step-children Kennon Hughens (Jennifer), Julie Hughens (John Corlett), Jeanne Hughens Brown (Eric); and grandchildren, Craig Lander, Brandon Brunson (Shelby), Michael Keith Brunson (Emily), Brittany Jones (Jonathan), Barclay Brunson, Blair Brunson, Erin Hughens Neely, (Brandon), Cara Hughens Lemaster (Tanner), Michael Hughens (Meredith), Madison Brown Ottoboni, (Ryan) and Micah Brown. He was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren.

Bryant was a loving son, father and teacher. He followed his parent’s walk with the Lord and His teachings. He shared those teachings as a Sunday School teacher and with his family. He went on several Medical Mission trips to Mexico and Honduras, pulling hundreds of teeth for those in need.

He was an avid fisherman, liked to go deer hunting, and spend time with his family and friends camping.

Bryant will be remembered for his gentle kind nature, and great sense of humor. If we were to describe him with one word, it would be “SWEET”.

The family would like to thank Parkway Place for all the care given to Bryant over the past years.

A visitation for Nathan will be held Friday, April 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX.

A memorial service will occur Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Buckner Parkway Place, 1321 Park Bayou Dr., Houston, TX.
