Nancy Jo "Nan" Irwin Goodwin, Cypress, Texas, 73, passed away on June 19, 2020 after a long struggle against a progressively debilitating disease, which she matched with dignity, courage, and an exuberant will to live. Born in Onawa, Iowa on May 4, 1947, to William and Evelyn Jo Irwin, she graduated from West Monona High School in 1965. She was active in many school and extra-curricular activities: teaching baton twirling and performing as a majorette, playing the flute, cheerleader, acting in plays, declam competition where she received numerous "firsts "in regional and state competitions over four years, and Rainbow Worthy Advisor. She attended the University of Northern Colorado, and married Steven Kuehl of Blencoe, Iowa. In 1990 she married Richard "Dick" Goodwin, and enjoyed living in Singapore for several years where her husband was an engineer for an international company.
Nan was a skilled accountant and business manager and continued working in spite of increasing disability. She was a longtime treasurer of a business investment group. Nan was known for her kindness, caring spirit, conscientious attention to detail, and executive skills in planning and organization. In her busy life she found time for volunteering to support developmentally disabled adults. She will be greatly missed by her many friends who valued her for her buoyant sense of humor and impish behavior. She was known for throwing marvelous parties where she kept everyone laughing by her jokes, pranks and hijinks.
Nan was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jo Irwin and Jeanne Shol Irwin, and her husband, Dick Goodwin. She is survived by her son, Tony Kuehl and beloved granddaughter, Kenzie Kuehl, Houston, Texas; Shara Brown, Houston, Texas; siblings Oliver Irwin, Vancouver, Canada; John Irwin, Phoenix, Arizona; Sally Irwin Kirkeby, Houston, Texas; and nephew, Colin Kirkeby, Houston, Texas.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Epiphany Lutheran Church located at 14423 West Road, Houston, TX
A graveside service will take place at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079 on Thursday, July 2nd, 2020 at 12:00 pm.
