Mrs. Joann Felica Thompson

Joann Felice King was born on December 22, 1958 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, the second of six girls born to the late Eddie King and Norma Perry King. Joann received her early childhood education in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. She graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1976. She later completed two years of vocational training from Moler Beauty College in Mandeville, Louisiana. Joann accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was later baptized at Tasker Chapel Memorial AME Church, Ponchatoula, Louisiana. As a teenager, she served in the young adult choir. Her greatest joy was her three children: Nickey King, Lakeisa Brown, and Cody King. She later moved to Houston, Texas in 1988 to live near immediate family. Joann married the love of her life Gerald Thompson on June 27, 2001 in Houston, Texas. Gerald loved, and cherished Joann, and affectionately called her "pumpkin". Their love for each other was faithful and enduring. They shared many wonderful memories together. Joann only stood about 5’4 but was known by all as "Big Mama". She loved life, and loved people. Joann had a beautiful spirit and generous heart. Her smile and laughter was contagious. She lived life on her own terms. In hindsight, she was a strong will child always pushing against the grain yet, quick to call upon the lord when her will took her places she did not want to go. Without doubt she knew she was loved by family and friends and that her sisters always had her back. She will truly be missed. Joann loved studying the bible, and was quite familiar with the Word of God and often quoted scripture verbatim. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91. She often made us smile with her reference to God as, "My God, Joann Felice King Thompson’s God". Despite the physical challenges she encountered with her health, Joann continued to hold strong to her faith in God. On a sunny and beautiful Sunday Morning, February 19, 2017, she heard the voice of God calling her home. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Nickey Nicole King, Lakeisa Brown (Earnest), and Cody Jamel King and step daughter, Kimberly Williams (Angelo). Her grandchildren: Xavier Jordan, Anfrenee Jordan, Jamesha Shelly, Dante King, Jasmine Kiaria Percy, Devonte Keon Brown, Makayla Brown and Makayla King. One precious great grandson, Xavier Jordan Jr. (Jr.) Her sisters: Diane Diaz, Carliste McFadden (Leroy), June Bartholomew (Louis), Cynthia Ferguson (Pete), Shelia Davis (late Joseph), Vanessa King, Natasha Bowman. Her brothers: Eddie King Jr., Mark King, Van King, Michael King and Alvin Perry (Valara). God richly blessed Joann to experience the love of (12) nieces, (13) nephews, (14) great nieces, (4) great nephews and a host of relatives, loved ones and friends. Joann’s father, Eddie King, step father Ellis Miller, brother, Johnny King, and mother-in-law Willie Mae McNeil preceded her in death. Her loving memory will live on in each of us
