after a short battle with leukemia .
Michael was born on July 31, 1946, a third generation Houstonian,
attending Grady Elementary , Admiral Farragut Academy, St. Petersburg ,
Fla. ,Hobart College , and graduated from Lamar High School . Prior to his
graduation from The University of Texas, Austin campus in 1970, he studied
and received a degree from the Universita per Stranieri di Perugia ,Italy, and has
continued his studies at Rice University in in the Italian language .
He formed The San Jacinto House , a company devoted to fine design and
architecture and for many years traveled to Italy , France and other countries
acquiring furniture and art for the design community in Houston and
surrounding states.
Michael was an avid and extensive traveler , building a life around his work in
the travel industry and related fields. His love of travel was in part ,fueled by his
fascination with people and history , a major influence in his life.
An avid yachtsman, he spent much time on the waters of the world was a
former member of Lakewood Yacht Club, and The Bob Smith Yacht Club where
many relationships were developed .
His parents, Frank F Spata and Floy Lynette Spata , predeceased him .
He is survived by his spouse and companion of 50 years ,Carlton Perkins , as
well as many family and friends.
