Melba was born December 28, 1928 in Benton, Arkansas to the late Hugh and Clara Williams Netercutt, an only child. In her early years she was surrounded by loving parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Melba attended schools in Arkansas and Oklahoma. After graduating she worked for Pan American World Airways, living in New York City. She later returned to Oklahoma City where she met the love of her life Alvin H Shipp on a blind date. They were married June 28, 1953 beginning over 60 years of a beautiful marriage. Their marriage saw Melba and Al sharing their dreams and moving from coast to coast living in many parts of the USA, with Al’s work for The DuPont Company. Along the way they made lasting friendship and lots of wonderful memories.
Their marriage was blessed with two loving and caring sons, Mark Edward and Thomas Thad. Melba spent her time as an active volunteer in her children’s schools and various activities, as well as their church. She enjoyed entertaining their many friends in their home, also was active in many bridge groups, which was her favorite pass time. She was an avid china painter, as well as a stitcher doing beautiful needle point works of art. She contributed her talent to the Kneeler Project at Memorial Drive Methodist Church, where they were members for over 20 years.
Melba is survived by her loving husband Al. Her son, Mark and his wife Rebecca. Son, Thad and his wife Faith and three sweet granddaughters, Sydney, Amber and Alyssa, and extended family Chantelle Hardy and her children Cole and Becca.
After living in the Memorial area they moved to Champion’s and have enjoyed being members of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13002 Katy Freeway Houston, TX 77079 under the guidance of Rev. Jim W. Foster.
Remembrances may be made to The American Cancer Society in Melba’s name.
