Mrs. Mattie Lee (Jones) Benjamin

Mattie Lee Benjamin was born on March 22, 1941, in Waskom, Texas. She was the third child born to Ella Louise Taylor and Albert Davis Jones. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Hill Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She attended Kashmere High where she graduated in 1959. She continued her studies at Texas Southern University as she began working for Ben Taub Hospital the same year.

In 1975, she married the late David Benjamin, who precedes her in death.

In June of 1997, Mattie Benjamin retired from the Harris County Hospital Ben Taub after 30 plus years of service. During that time, she received many awards and certificates for her outstanding service. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, the sound of the slot machines, and loved her Houston Texans.

Mattie was called to eternal rest on August 20, 2021. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Deacon Tony Jones Sr.; daughter- in- love, Tangela Jones; one granddaughter, Ambur Jones whom she cherished dearly; one grandson, Tony Jones II who could never do no wrong in her eyes; three sister, Lola Richardson, Ola Stokes, and Edith Rusher; many nieces and nephews; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Ella Louise Rusher, father Albert David Jones, brother Eugene Brown, and sister Abie Prentice.
