An incomparably beautiful woman died peacefully on September 11, 2015. Mary was born September 2, 1925 in Dawson, Texas to the late Carrie Mae and Clarence Holt. Mary married Arthur Odus Lang Jr.—“Lang” as most knew him—on August 16, 1946. They lived in Midland, Texas from 1947 to 1966 and raised their three sons there. They then moved to Houston, Texas. Mary worked for 15 years at Houston Baptist University where all three of her sons graduated.
Mary would tell you that her favorite career was being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mary is survived by her sons: Chuck Lang of Sugar Land, Texas; Tim Lang and wife Debbie of Katy, Texas; and Greg Lang and wife Gayle of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her sons blessed her with four grandchildren: T.J. Lang of Durham, England; Lindy Kessner of Katy, Texas; Megan Lang of Tulsa Oklahoma; and Kara Whisenhunt of Claremore, Oklahoma. These grandchildren have given her nine great grandchildren.
Mary is also survived by her sister and best friend, Adalina Davis of Sugar Land, Texas and her sister-in-law, Audrey Holt, of Pasadena, Texas along with many nieces and nephews.
She was a true “Southern Lady,” and she will be sorely missed.
A Memorial Service will be held for Mary on Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 in the evening at First United Methodist Church in Missouri City, Texas. Marty Vershel, the Senior Pastor, will be the officiant. Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be a private family burial before the Memorial.
Mary’s wish was for contributions to be made to her family and friends’ favorite charities.
