Mary Angel Kosut

MARY ANGEL KOSUT, was born October 19, 1922, to Micaela Pompa de Garcia and Saturnino Garcia in Brownsville, Texas. She died on July 14, 2012. Mary was the oldest of 13 children and grew up in Brownsville and on a farm near Sweeney, Texas. Mary was the beloved wife of John M. Kosut, her husband of 62 years who died in 2008. She is survived by her four sons and their families, John, wife Sandra; Kenneth, wife, Penny; Gary, wife, Larisa; and Lanny. Mary was the grandmother of Zachary and Viktor. She is also survived by several of her sisters and their families including Ophelia Jones, Lillie Garcia, Gloria Harvey, Betty Zarate, Linda Kelly, and Elida Garcia and by her brothers Roy Garcia and Joel Garcia. Mary graduated from Bay City High School in 1941 and Durham Business College in Houston in 1942. She worked as a secretary for several Houston employers during World War II including Railway Express, Binswanger Glass and for the U.S. Maritime Commission at Todd Shipyard. At Todd Shipyard she met John, her future husband. He was soon inducted into the U.S. Army and was severely wounded in France in 1945. They were married in 1946 when the battle-injured John returned from the war. Their first two years of married life were spent in El Paso, Texas as John received treatment for his injuries at William Beaumont Army Hospital. They returned to Houston in 1948 and built their lives and family there. Mary's primary interest in life was her husband and four sons. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She had many friends and will be greatly missed. Life for Mary was an adventure that she shared with her family and friends. She enjoyed fellowship with her SPJST Lodge No. 88 friends, PTA leadership at Love Elementary and Hamilton Junior High Schools, teaching Cub Scouts, creating ceramic art pieces, hosting parties and traveling. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with eulogies starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday July 22 at Brookside Funeral Home Cypress Creek, 281-345-6061. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk, Katy, Texas 77450, 281-578-0707, Rev. Msgr. Jack M. Dinkins as Celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, 281- 447-8686.
