Mary Elizabeth Buchanan

Mary Elizabeth (Way) Buchanan, was called to Heaven by her Lord on May 6, 2014. Mary was born to Lillian and Gus Way in Port Arthur, Texas on September 11, 1923. She later settled with her family in Houston as a teen. Mary graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston and holds an Associates Degree from Citrus College in Glenora, CA. Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage with Riley Buchanan before he passed, first in Houston followed by 23 years in Glenora, CA. Mary & Riley returned to Houston in 1989. Mary is the loving mother of five children and three daughters-in-law: Jim & Shirley Buchanan, Tom & Carol Buchanan, Mike & Toni Buchanan, Dave Buchanan and Patricia Conrad. She is grandmother to 14, great grandmother to 21 and great-great grandmother to two. Mary was a sister to four, sister-in-law to seventeen, aunt to twenty and friend to countless. Over her 90 years, she enjoyed the love and respect of her extended family, her friends, neighbors and many acquaintances. She was always proud to be a member of the mall walkers at Willowbrook shopping center, among which she established long and enduring friendships. She enjoyed the love and friendship of those that cared for her during her later years as a resident of The Hampton at Willowbrook; and she returned that love each and everyday. Her family will host visitors at Brookside from 5-8pm on Fri., May 9th. Mary's love and devotion to family and friends will be celebrated at 2pm, Sat., May 10th at the Family Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest beside Riley at Brookside Memorial Park.
