Mary Ellyne Berntsen Bennett was born in Galveston, Texas on the 27th of January 1942 to Frances and Ole Brentsen, Sr. She passed away on Monday, the 29th of August 2022 at Methodist West Hospital in Houston. She was 80 years of age.
Mary graduated from La Marque High School in La Marque, Texas in 1960.
Mary had an adventurous spirit as she traveled with her husband in the Air Force to Scotland and England, where the met Harlan. She worked for Social Security for 12 years and then worked for Spring Branch Independent School District at Pine Shadows Elementary and Spring Shadows Elementary where she was a Technology Specialist and truly loved everyone she knew. She retired from Episcopal High School in 2015.
She enjoyed retirement by going to plays and dinner on Sundays with a group of her friends, going on trips with 55+ group, traveling to Hawaii and numerous cruises and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Paul Robbins Bennett, Jr.; parents, Ole Charles Berntsen Sr. and Frances Kelly Berntsen; in-laws, Paul Robbins Bennett, Sr. and Georgia Evelyn Bennett; brother, Deacon Frank Berntsen and sister, Carolyn Diane Summers.
She is survived by Harlan Jillson; daughter, Kimberly Bennett; brother, Ole Berntsen, Jr. and wife Barbara; sister-in-law, Joann Zuniga Berntsen; brother-in-law, Tom Bennett and wife Kathleen. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Clayton Tyler Myers and Makayla Elizabeth Myers; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was very passionate about her family and faith.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Tuesday, the 6th of September, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the recitation of the holy rosary is to commence at five o’clock.
A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 7th of September, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Drive in Houston, where Father Niall Nolan is to officiate.
The Rite of Committal will follow, at half-past one o’clock that afternoon, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7801 Gulf Freeway in Dickinson.
