Mary Alice Ball Brown Moore

Mary Alice was born to Jerre Basil Ball and Ima Ragan Ball in Nacogdoches, Texas on the 7th of September 1930. She graduated Valedictorian from San Augustine High School in 1947 at the age of 16 and received her college degree in Social Work from Texas Christian University in 1951. She moved to Longview, Texas where she became a social worker and later a secretary for an insurance agency. It was there that she was introduced to a chicken farmer, Charles Linson Brown, Jr. whom she married in 1953. Charles became a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation a year later where he served until he was killed in the line of duty in 1973. After his death, Mary Alice worked as a hospital volunteer at Medical Center Hospital in Tyler, Texas. She served as the President of the Hospital Women’s Auxiliary several times.

In 1979, Mary Alice married Robert H. Moore, and moved to Jamestown, Texas. In addition to helping Bob manage several rental properties, Mary Alice served as a regional officer with AARP, President of the Mineola Garden Club and Chair of the Main Street Beautification Committee. She and Bob retired to Tyler in 1999. Bob passed away following a heart attack in 2001. Mary Alice continued to reside in Tyler until 2008 when she moved to Houston to be closer to her family.

Mary Alice is survived by her son, Reagan Mark Brown, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Mitchell Brown, of Bellaire, Texas. Mary Alice is also survived by her two grandsons and their spouses: Charles Morgan Brown and Becka Brown of Dallas, Texas as well as Tyler Mitchell Brown and Katie Brown of New York City, New York. Mary Alice loved dogs, cats, Jigsaw puzzles, and old movie trivia.

A memorial service for Mary Alice will be conducted at half past ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 9th of May at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 5308 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, Texas 77005. In lieu of the customary remembrances, memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in Mary Alice’s memory.
