Martha Collins Crowe

Martha received her bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She married Kenneth Jay Crowe, Jr. in July of 1950, and they moved to Houston in 1953. She was a wonderful wife and mother, not only to her two boys, but to the hundreds of children she taught during her 25+ years of teaching, most of them at Herod Elementary in the Houston Independent School District. In addition to family, friends, and students, she loved travel. While others might have been content with London or Paris, she ventured to the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, safari on the Serengeti. There were no limits to her interest in other lands, other people, other cultures.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George M. Collins and Laura Carroll Collins, and her husband, Kenneth Jay Crowe, Jr. She is survived by her sons, George Collins Crowe and Kenneth Jay Crowe, III; her daughters-in-law Mary DiFiore Crowe and Elizabeth Castille Crowe; and her adored grandchildren, Kendall Collins (KC) Crowe, Matthew Kenneth Crowe, her namesake, Martha Catherine Crowe, and Kenneth Jay Crowe, IV. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends and colleagues.

The family wishes to extend our thanks to the wonderful support provided by the staff of the Hampton at Tanglewood and Bluebonnet Palliative Care.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Frank Carleton of Georgetown, Texas, Russell Bancroft of Houston, John Castille of Houston, Kendall Crowe of Auburn, Alabama, Matthew Crowe of College Station, and Kenneth J. Crowe, IV of Dallas.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 7th of June, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The graveside service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 8th of June, at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, 3100 FM 317 in Athens, Texas.
