Maria J. Smock

Maria was born to George Jacob Sr. and Bertha Seiffert Jacob on November 4, 1928 in Houston TX, the 5th of six children. She was raised in the Heights.

Maria is predeceased by her parents George and Bertha and her 5 siblings Theodora Gutowsky, Sister Clara Jacob, Daria Curry, Frieda Wick and George Jacob, Jr.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Walter A. (Rip) Smock , her son Joseph G. Smock and grandson Caleb Smock. Also daughter-in-law Cherry Smock, son-in-law Ronald Thibodeaux, son-in-law John Birchfield, daughter-in-law Helen Smock. She is survived by her children Janice Ninomiya (Masa) James Smock, Patricia Bowers (Fred) Jeanne Cabrera, (Frank) Julie Thibodeaux, Susan Birchfield, John Smock (Patty) and David Smock (Jill) , her daughter-in-law Charmaine Fullmer. She is also survived by her grandchildren Teddy M. Talley, Marcella Cabrera, Marco Cabrera, Jacob Smock, Kai and Ian Ninomiya, John and Michael Birchfield, Joel Smock, Jolene Henderson, Samuel Smock, Kayne Smock, Mallory Winters, Hannah Parrish and Connor Smock. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren whom she adored Jimmy Smock, Sammy Smock, Owen and Kara Talley, Remi Cabrera, Jocelyn Birchfield, Bella Birchfield, Adalynn Henderson, Kannon and Lennix Smock, Piper .and Kennedy Payne, Benjamin Parrish. She is also survived by nephews and nieces.

Maria and her late husband were charter members of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Spring Branch area of Houston. She and her husband Walter A. Smock raised their nine children in Spring Branch. Her favorite things to do were sing, traveling, and spending time at the Frio River with family. Maria was a good and faithful servant and is now in the communion of Saints in heaven.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, TX 77055. A vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to follow. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2024 at St Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Dr, Houston, TX 77080. The Rite of Committal will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
