and was reunited with her beloved husband Beto who passed away in 1973. Mary was born in Ganado, Tx on August 8, 1922 to Julio and Maria de la Luz Lopez. As an infant her parents moved her to Victoria, Texas before moving to Houston, Texas in 1942. She was one of the few women who was trained and worked as a welder at the Houston Ship Yard during War World II. In 1943 she met and married her loving husband Heribeto "Beto' Hernandez. Together they raised their 2 children Rose and Herbert in Houston, Tx. She was the love and heartbeat of our family in her 99 years of life. She is preceded in death by her husband Beto Hernandez, son Herbert J. Hernandez, parents Julio and Maria de la Luz Lopez, Sisters Dolores Candelaria and Janie Torres, Brothers Gilbert Lopez and Joe Lopez.
She is survived by her daughter Rose M. Higginbotham, Grandson Matthew P. Higginbotham. Sister-in-laws Gloria Lopez and Sanida Lopez, brother-in-law Armando Mares and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary served her Lord throughout her life. She was a Eucharistic minister and took Holy Communion to the sick. She volunteered as a driver to take elderly to Mass and Doctor appointments when needed. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Mother of Charity #1713 for 25 years.
Her family was blessed with her great cooking of homemade apple pie, bread pudding, pot roast and Aunt Mary's beans and so many more goodies. She was also handy with a hammer, paint brush and others tools on many home projects. Mary didn't start driving until she was 50 years old and never received a traffic ticket. She later worked many years with the Seniors Program until she retired. Mary was a caring and loving person not only to her family and friends but also to the community. She was the love of life with her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all.
She will now be our new shinning star in the Heavens looking upon us with her love and smile.♥️
