Margaret "Marji" Mitchell Hill was a beautiful soul who embraced life with vibrant energy and a joyful spirit. She left this world on Saturday, the 16th of March 2024, after a brief and unexpected battle with pancreatic cancer. Marji touched the hearts of all who came to know her.
Born on the 10th of August 1948, in Houston, to parents Bryan and Margaret Mitchell. Marji was a proud graduate of Memorial High School class of 1966 and remained an active member of its Reunion Committee to her final days. She enjoyed a successful 20-year career in personnel/staffing, running Emde Personnel Consultants. After retirement, she pursued her passion for interior design, showcasing her talent and generosity by helping friends and family transform their homes, always eager to share her love for design—and shopping!
Marji met the love of her life, Jon Michael “Mike” Hill in 1991, and they enjoyed 30 wonderful years together, marrying in September 1997. She and Mike shared a deep and enduring love, finding joy in life’s adventures, from active involvement in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo—she as a member of the Grand Entry and Parade Committee and he as a Lifetime Director—to a love of travel, to cherished times at their Rockin’ H Ranch where Marji loved to host friends and family while Mike played the keyboard and sang to everyone’s delight. Their life together was filled with magic and love until Mike’s passing in 2021.
A true matriarch of her family, Marji's love for them knew no bounds. She took great joy in being the “quarterback” for family activities, ensuring that everyone felt included and loved. She cherished her role as a devoted mother and grandmother.
An avid entertainer, Marji thrived on hosting gatherings and reveling in the company of loved ones. Her sense of humor was legendary, her jokes delivered effortlessly and often accompanied by contagious laughter. Whether playing bridge with Mike and her sisters or spending time with her “gal pals” over wine or her lifelong favorite, Dewar’s, Marji radiated warmth and joy, making every experience memorable. She was genuine, chic, savvy, loving, fun, beautiful in every way, and she will be deeply missed.
Marji is survived by her sons, Thomas and Marc Emde; her four grandchildren, Braedon, Isabel, Tanner, and Ryder; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Suzy and Ed Stasney, and Beverly and Warren Bright, along with an extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Marji's life will be held on Wednesday the 27th of March at two o’clock in the afternoon, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
