Marcy Taub-Wessel, passed away Wednesday, the 6th of January 2021, in Houston Texas. A native Houstonian, Mrs. Taub-Wessel graduated from St. John’s School, earned her BA, Magna Cum Laude from Southern Methodist University. Marcy went on to the Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Business to earn a MS in Real Estate as well as an MBA, with a Finance concentration. Marcy was President of MetCo Capital Corporation. She founded and operated several successful businesses. Active in other realms of commerce, Mrs. Taub-Wessel also served on the Board of Directors of one of the Texas Commerce branch banks. She continued her family’s deep-rooted tradition of philanthropic activities in the community and was respected as one of Houston’s active philanthropists and humanitarians. She was particularly passionate with her time and financial support of numerous charitable organizations, various institutions of higher education, museums, hospitals, medical research endeavors, libraries, and the arts. In honoring her beloved mother and father, Mrs. Taub-Wessel organized with her two brothers a gift of a new gymnasium and theater bearing the name of their parents, The Carol and Henry J. N. Taub Gymnasium and Theater to Deer Park ISD for the new San Jacinto Elementary School. Additionally, Mrs. Taub-Wessel, together with her two brothers made a donation of historic significance to St. John’s School where she, her brothers and son all attended and their father was a trustee of the school for 14 years. The donation to and opportunity for St. John’s was made in honor of their mother and father to enable the establishment of the school’s new West Campus, named the Carol and Henry J. N. Taub Campus.
Mrs. Taub-Wessel was known for her commitment to duty and service for the Houston community. Marcy has been proud to serve on the Board of Directors or as a Trustee of the Menil Collection, Alley Theatre, Contemporary Arts Museum, UNICEF-Houston/Galveston U.S. Committee, Society for the Performing Arts, John P. McGovern Museum of Health & Medical Science. Taking a personal interest with her commitment to the various foundations, she served as Vice-Chairman of the Harris County Hospital District Foundation and as a trustee for each of the Baylor Medical Foundation, the Taub Foundation, and the Pauline Sterne Wolff Memorial Foundation. Mrs. Taub-Wessel also has been proud to serve on a variety of other organizations, including Methodist Hospital Society for Leading Medicine.
Marcy immersed herself in all of life, including the outdoors, horseback riding, skiing, tennis and basketball. First and foremost, she loved her dear friends and most of all her family for whom she has always been fiercely devoted.
Mrs. Taub-Wessel was predeceased by mother, Carol Ellen Joseloff Taub, father, Henry J. N. Taub, brother H.Ben Taub, and uncle, John Ben Taub. She is survived by brother, Henry J. N. Taub II; her husband, Thomas Freimuth Wessel; her sons, Henry Taub Wessel and Maxwell Elliot Wessel; her daughter, Lauren Elisabeth Wessel; her cousins Bernhard L. Kohn Jr, Bernhard L. Kohn III, Kathryn K. Rieger, Kimberly M. Frezados, Elizabeth A. Kohn and Michael B. Massius; her Aunt Carolyn Taub, John B. Taub, Jr., Casey C. Taub, Risa Taub McDonald, and Margie Taub Brown.
The Funeral Service will be private for family only Sunday the 10th of January.
