Manuel Dávila, Sr. was born on January 19, 1948, in McAllen, Texas where he attended McAllen High School, excelling on the football field and earning All-Valley recognition. From there, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston.
Manuel served in both the McAllen and Houston Fire departments until an injury in the line of duty cut his career short. He spent his professional career in sales working in various industries and traveling the globe, most notably in Mexico, Germany, and China. Inspired by his father’s passion for education, he faithfully served the Sembradores de Amistad in various leadership roles, which provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships for young Hispanic students. Manuel also loved being with his family and friends and sharing stories of his adventures.
Manuel Dávila is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sylvia I. Davila (Cantu), a son Manuel Davila Jr., and grandchildren Edward and Rachel; a son Michael Davila, his wife, Anna Davila, and grandchildren, Lydia and Jacob; and a daughter Sylvia A. Davila, her husband Jack Da Silva and a grandson Mateus Da Silva. He is preceded in death by his parents Fidel and Ana Maria Dávila and brother Efraín Dávila; and is survived by three siblings, Sandra Garcia, Fidel Dávila and Sonia Muñoz.
A visitation for Manuel will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068. A rosary/prayer service will occur Friday, April 26, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 19222 TX-249, Houston, TX 77070.
