Lynda Joyce Mazyn

Lynda Joyce Swisher Mazyn, “Dede,” passed away on January 17th, 2021 at 72, after a long battle with COPD & pneumonia. She was born on December 3rd, 1948, in Houston, Texas to Bennie and Lavon Swisher.

Her story starts in Houston, growing up on Chase Street and attending Berry Elementary, Burbank Junior High and Sam Houston High School. One day she ran an errand with her mom, little did she know that she would start a family of her own with the handsome bagger at Weingarden’s grocery store. She loved living in her house on Sweetwood Drive, “Home-Home” as she called it, for 42 years where she loved to rearrange the living room furniture weekly, excluding Papa’s recliner. On top of her enjoying cleaning and painting the interior walls, she enjoyed doing yardwork and always having a perfectly manicured yard. In 1972, they bought a lot in Yaupon Cove, that started as a two-bedroom cabin. In 1994 tropical storm Allison flooded the cabin, and so the transformation began into a newer bigger home. They later moved up to the lake house in 2010 to spend their golden years. In April of 2020, they endured a Tornado that required a mass remodel of the house. She had a knack for collecting Precious Moments, crosses, chickens and ducks. She loved crafting and making things such as cross stitching, wreath making, macramé, crocheting, coloring pictures and solving puzzles. She had a passion for flowers which grew into floral arrangements, which led to her attaining a degree within the art. She enjoyed going out on the pontoon boat and white bass fishing. As time went on and things slowed down, she loved playing solitaire, candy crush, and scrolling through Facebook to see extended family and friends and what they are up to. Though she loved being a resourceful homemaker, she enjoyed traveling and traveled to several places, such as Branson and Springfield, Missouri as well as St. Augustine, Florida and Denver, Colorado. Of course, Dede also loved spending time with her grandchildren from teaching them how to craft, fishing off the pier and boat and other various amounts of knowledge that she possessed. She would want to be remembered for her undying loyalty and love for her husband and family.

Preceded in death by her parents Bennie and Lavon Swisher. Father in law and mother in law – Theodore and Mary Mazyn. Sisters Bennie Lois Swisher and Barbara Jenkins. Brother in laws James Atzenhoffer and Lester Jaeger. Nephew Johnny Michael Jenkins Jr.

Survived by her husband of 53 years and 11 months, Johnnie Mazyn. Her two daughters and son in laws, Tina and Tim Gagner and Kimberly and Jay Harvey. Dede is survived by her four grandchildren, Zachary and wife Lexi Gagner, Lyndsay Gagner, Collin Harvey and Hailey Harvey. Her sister, Lavon (Billie) Jaeger. Brother in law Theodore (Bobo) and wife Karen Mazyn and sister in law Frances Atzenhoffer. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many other close family friends.

The family would like to give special thanks and acknowledgments to the staff at Livingston Hospital and Kingwood Hospital. We would also like to thank all the friends and family for the overflowing support throughout her lifetime.
