Lula Broussard Warr

Lula was born on January 25, 1927, and joined her true love, Jake Warr, her “Cher” in heaven on May 22, 2022. She leaves to mourn her loss five children: Sandy (Keith), Kenny (Susie), Tommy, Carla (Ray) and Ray (Charissa). She was also blessed with fourteen grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren (with two more on the way!). She loved every single one of them and was so proud of their many accomplishments.

She spent her early years in Abbeville, LA, the fifth of six children. She met Jake when he was working there. They married in 1946 and moved to Houston. After living in west Houston for many years, they moved to Valley Lodge in Simonton in the early 1970’s. They enjoyed their rural lifestyle – Jake planted massive vegetable gardens and Lula processed and preserved the impressive yields. It was always fun to see just how many family and friends shared in the wealth of those vegetables. Lula was well-renowned for her cooking skills, especially those influenced by her Cajun roots. Christmas Eve seafood gumbo was a tradition. Her unique cooking sometimes brought questioning looks from those unfamiliar. Chocolate bread was a great example of that – until you tasted it and were hooked! There was seldom a failure in the kitchen, and it was truly the heart of her home.

While raising their five children and supporting Jake in his business career, Lula also found time to be a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout leader, and involved in the Catholic Church. She then began a successful career in real estate after the children were grown. Aided by an amazing accounting and business mind, she took great pride in helping people find a home, all the while loving on her growing family.

She and Jake had some special travel times, especially when they were meeting with his former shipmates from World War II. She also had the opportunity to visit France, even the chateau village where her family originated. One of her favorite trips was to Rome, where she attended the Palm Sunday service at the Vatican. The great majority of her travel, though, was when she and Jake frequently visited family in Louisiana and Alabama. Visits there were always huge celebrations of family and food. It was always about family. She was the last surviving of her and Jake’s siblings. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews in her Louisiana and Jake’s Alabama families that were so precious to her.

Chère, Mother, Grandma, GiGi, Aunt Lula, Nan Lul…. those were the names we knew her by. Deeply loving, deeply loved, always in our hearts.

A visitation for Lula will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A funeral service will occur Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 5610 Demel St, Wallis, TX 77485. A committal service will occur Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
