Luis Militar Samoro of Houston, Texas passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born on August 19, 1933, in Iloilo City, Philippines where he grew up in a family of five as the middle child.
He graduated from the University of Saint Augustine of Iloilo in 1956 with a bachelor’s in science of commerce.
Luis worked in accounts payable for PCIB in the Philippines until 1968 when he immigrated to the United States. He continued work in accounts payable for Select Credit in New York City. In 1980, Luis moved his family to Houston, TX where he spent the remainder of his career in accounting at MD Anderson until retirement in 1998. He also had a part-time job at Walgreens Drugs and worked there from 1980 – 2005.
He and his wife were actively involved at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church where he volunteered in the role of usher.
Luis is preceded in death by his parents, Doroteo and Cornelia Samoro, brother, Antonio.
He is survived by his wife, Julita and sons, Luis and Joel, grandchildren, Zachary, Madison, Drake, and Griffin.
Fond Memory of Julie: “I truly enjoy seeing some other places, so I told Louie to retire from his part-time job at Walgreens. He totally enjoyed working there despite evening hours. He complied just to please me. He was generous that way!”
The family would like to thank The Methodist Hospital nursing staff and social worker for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. Additional thanks to Doctor’s Choice Hospice Services, with special recognition to Chaplain Trudy Huff.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Catholic Service at Chapel of Eternal Peace on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 9:00 am. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm.
Interment after service on Saturday April 12, 10:00 am at Forest Park.
