Lucinda “Sissy” DeForke Van Wagner, 64, passed away peacefully on September 20th 2016 in Houston Texas. Lucinda was born May 11, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Lee DeForke and Edna Havemann DeForke in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Charles H. Milby High School in 1971. She married her soulmate, Roger Van Wagner in August, 1999.
Lucinda was preceded in death by her Father Lee DeForke and Mother Edna Havemann DeForke. Survived by Husband, Roger Van Wagner; children, Burke and Kelly Stutes of Richmond, Angela Stutes of Austin, Christina and Craig Owens of Houston, and Katie and Cameron Cowan of Rockwall. Grandchildren, Ashley and Jacob Absill, Samantha Stutes, Brice Gras, Hannah Stutes, Serenity Stutes, Emily and Connor Cowan, Amber and Grace Owens. Great grandson, Liam Absill; siblings, Elsie “Peewee” Walls and husband Roy of Houston, Margaret “Babe” Havens and husband Robert “Bob” of Bastrop, Reta Grohman and husband Michael of Spring, Frank DeForke of Michigan, and Shannon DeForke and wife Stephanie of League City and many nieces and nephews.
Lucinda cherished her family and friends, brightened many family get-togethers, and holiday gatherings with her special homemade treats and boisterous “Happy Holiday” greetings. She loved traveling and visiting new places, especially stopping at a Buc-ee’s along the way for her favorite snacks of M&Ms and Icees. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed Danielle Steele novels. She avidly collected Barbie dolls, eagles, and Minnie Mouse memorabilia. Her favorite past time was going to Casinos.
Lucinda was a generous, loving and selfless person who gave freely of her time and energy to everyone, and always put others first. Her smile lit up any room she entered, and one always felt better after spending time with her. Lucinda’s laughter was contagious, and brightened everyone’s day. Her presence will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home.
