Lucille Susie Campbell Tyler 09/23/1922 ~ 03/19/2014 and
Maurice John Tyler 12/29/1921 ~ 03/09/2010
A breathtaking beauty bouncing down a flight of stairs caught the eye of a Naval Air Corpsman just home from WWII. In a hurry, she paid no attention to the young man that was captivated by her. A few weeks later, bumping into one another again, she lost her balance. Conveniently, he caught her and fell deeply in love.
That moment sparked a love that lasted over 60 years. Maurice “Tim” Tyler and Lucille Campbell were married in 1947 and were an inspiration for so many. To the grandchildren they were larger than life; to their family they were mentors and pillars of strength. Their home was full of music and the grandchildren reminisce about dancing in the living room.
Lucille was an artist, having her works displayed in banks and galleries. She was a wonderful cook, gardener and a talented seamstress making beautiful wedding dresses and gowns for the family. Tim retired from a long career in the press room of the Houston Chronicle, but his real career was his family. Their marriage was full of devotion, travel, and hard work. We strive to imitate the amazing legacy they created.
Tim and Lucille are survived by their son John, his wife Brenda, their 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; daughter LaVonne, her husband David, their 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; daughter Jackie, her husband James, their 3 children and 5 grandchildren; and daughter Cynthia, her husband Mike and their 1 child. They are preceded in death by 1 grandchild and 3 great-grandchildren.
