On February 16, 2018, at the age of 100, Lucile Gehring Nerger joyfully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Lucile was a fourth generation Houstonian, and after graduation from Sam Houston High School was employed by Stubblefield Law Firm.
Her life centered around her family, home, and church. She met and married her husband of 59 years, Martin Nerger at Trinity Lutheran Church where they faithfully served Christ until their deaths.
Lucile was a committed member of the Ladies’ Circle at Trinity and served in many areas of that organization. Her life-long hobbies were painting (china, oil, water color) and sewing. Until a few years ago she was still making hand-stitched quilts for the people of Sierra Leone, Nigeria through Lutheran World Relief. At the age of 85 she became a volunteer reading tutor for children at Woodview and Bunker Hill Elementary Schools which brought her much joy. At the age of 100, she was still looking up new words in her dictionary and kept abreast of the daily news and politics.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Freda and H.V.Gehring, Sr.; her husband Martin; sister Marie Theiss and husband, Harold; brothers Roy Gehring of Dallas and Vic Gehring of Houston.
She is survived by her children Marcille Magness (Dr. Bonham Magness), Houston; Kathy Myers (Dr. Dan Myers), Dallas. Grandchildren: Dr. Marc Magness (Sophie), Houston; Marlene Magness, Houston; Mary Lynn Mrok (Eddie), Scottsdale, Arizona; Heather Roberts (Andrew), Dallas; Lacy Schultz (Nate), Dallas; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Martha Gehring and Carol Gehring, as well as nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery on Saturday, February 24th at 11 am. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 800 Houston Avenue, 77007.
