The oldest of three children, Lori was born in Boonton, NJ on October 7, 1967. Just before her second birthday, her parents relocated to Houston. Lori attended Walnut Bend Elementary, Paul Revere Middle School, then on to St. Agnes Academy where she graduated high school. After a road trip to Colorado with her sister in 1992, Lori fell in love with the Peoples Republic of Boulder. She decided to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and earned a BA in Sociology. Her adventurous spirit later led her to England where she earned a Masters in Sociology from the University of Manchester. After returning to Houston for several years, Lori moved to Austin in 2007.
She is survived by her father Gregory B Hughes and wife Linda, her mother Mary Ann Laroche and husband Dennis, brother Kenny Hughes, sister Jennifer Hughes Hernandez, and grandmother Emma Sears. Lori was blessed with 8 aunts and uncles, 27 cousins, 8 nieces and nephews, her 2 cats Harley and Presley, not to mention countless friends who she considered family.
Lori was one of a kind. She was often sought out for her clever advice and never hesitated to put the needs of others first. Her sister says she had a knack for completing the sentences of those closest to her. We will remember Lori for her tender heart, her fun loving spirit, her determination and her resourcefulness. As her late grandfather Harry Sears often said, "There is nothing Lori cannot do".
A Memorial Gathering will be held from three o’clock until five o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 9th of July 2011, at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas.
