Lorena Estelle Hearn Farrar passed away on July 1, 2015. Rene, as she was known to all her friends and family, was born in Crockett, TX. on May 12, 1922 to Mirdie and Odell Hearn. She was the second of seven children.
Rene is survived by her daughter, Diane Staudt, Beeville, TX.; grandchildren, Billy Staudt and Johnny Staudt of San Antonio, TX., Jason Martin of Sugarland TX.; two great-grandchildren, Collin Staudt, Beeville, TX. and Alexandria Martin, Sugarland, TX.; two sisters, Greta Cross, Texas a City, TX. and Arlena DeWitt, Houston, TX. as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rene was preceded in death by her parents, Mirdie and Odell Hearn, her husband, Malone Hill Farrar, her daughter, Dorothy Marie Martin; sister , Ola Mae Wheeler; brothers, Linson Lee Hearn, Roland Hearn, and Mack Hearn.
Rene married Malone Farrar, who was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Rene and Malone and their two daughters, Dorothy and Diane, moved wherever the Navy took them. Rene enrolled her daughters in dance and twirling schools wherever they were stationed around the country. An accomplished seamstress, Rene spent countless hours making costumes for recitals and competitions and taking the girls to lessons and contests around the country. With her little portable Singer sewing machine she made not only costumes, but clothing for herself and her daughters including prom dresses, pageant formals and wedding gowns. Most she designed herself and embellished with intricate handwork. Rene also made draperies and upholstered furniture for herself and family members homes. In later years, Rene became interested in quilting and painting. She and her friend, Yvonna Crandall, enrolled in an art class and produced many paintings that are cherished by their family members. Rene also enjoyed gardening and always maintained a beautiful yard and garden.
After Malone retired from the Navy, the family settled in Houston where the daughters graduated from high school. Rene worked several years at Sears until her youngest daughter graduated from college. Consequently all home products were bought from Sears. Malone even teased her that if a car could be bought from Sears she would do it!
Malone was an active Mason and Shriner and the couple participated in many Shriner activities and traveled with fellow Shriners throughout the years and in the process acquired many great friends. Rene especially enjoyed their square dancing group, Shriner balls and the Shrine Circus. Rene was a Past President and an active member of the Shriner Legionettes.
The family attended First Methodist Church in downtown Houston for many years. When Rene and Malone moved to Sharpstown in the early 70's they began attending FUMC of Sugarland, where their oldest daughter and her family also attended. Rene continued to read the Bible daily until her weak vision made reading impossible.
Rene was especially close to her younger sisters, Arlena and Greta and the three of them took many road trips together, often going to the old family place in Crockett, TX. Of course, they always shopped along the way wherever they were going and always played card or domino games when together. Rene and Malone moved to the Waterford in Deer Park, TX. in 2010. Rene continued to live there after Malone's death in Nov. 2012.
Rene took great pride in her family, her friends and her red hair. She touched many lives and will be missed by all that loved her.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5, 2015 starting at 5 PM and ending at 8 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the funeral home chapel.
