Lois M. Ponder, age 64, was born Lois M. Bonton on September 14, 1957, in Pineville, Louisiana. She passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022, in Sugarland, Texas. Lois was a servant of our Lord Jesus Christ, wife, mother, sister, aunt, loving neighbor, and a very capable business professional. Lois Ponder, affectionately known as “Beanie”, was the third child of four born to Pierre Bonton and Elnora (Tibbs) Bonton. Pierre Bonton preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Wesley W. Ponder, daughter Lisa M. Ponder, sons Jason Ponder and Wesley Issac Ponder, her mother Elnora Tibbs Bonton, and four siblings Muata Kenyatta (Deorsie), Donald Bonton (Shirley), Cathy Walker (Frank), and Debra Ross.
Lois accepted Christ while growing up in Port Arthur, Texas, and was reared spiritually at Eastern Star Baptist Church. Mrs. Ponder was a student of the Holy Scripture throughout her life and could be found quietly teaching Bible Study and witnessing in word and deed to all who entered her concentric circle. Lois culminated her faith walk as a member of the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Family.
Lois received her primary and secondary education in the Port Arthur School System. After High School, Lois sought higher education at Lamar University graduating with honors with a B.A. in Accounting. She seldom publicly shared her credentials with friends although she humbly possessed a few. Lois was a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Planner, Master Gardener, Master Naturalist, and held a Master’s degree in Finance. She worked professionally in Churches, Banking, and Oil and Gas. She served with companies such as First City National Bank (assistant comptroller), Enron (project accountant), and Engie North America (senior project accountant) until retirement. Upon retirement, her work was only beginning, and she felt led to start a financial service corporation working with public and private clientele. Lois often shared her knowledge of finances to encourage the application of what she believed to be “Basic Stewardship Principles” anywhere, anytime, and often at no cost.
Lois and Wesley wed in Holy Matrimony on September 6, 1986, at Southeast Community Church where they tied their spiritual lives together. She leaves her family and friends to cherish and exemplify her witness. Her family believes Lois would desire you to cherish the memories of family celebrations, Bible studies, financial literacy and stewardship, and practice sharing food recipes.
Her physical presence will truly be missed while her legacy will never be forgotten.
