Lloyd Winston Durden died Sunday, August 13th joining his wife, Lettie Mae Durden, son, Troy Winston Durden, and daughter, Dayna Kay Durden who preceded him to be in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is survived by two sisters, Sharon Walters, and Sandra Durden, 4 nieces, 4 great nephews, 3 great nieces, 3 great-great nephews, and 2 great-great nieces. He was born in Houston and spent the majority of his working years contributing to the community in his beloved hometown including a number of helpful organizations not only monetarily, but with his time in patrolling the neighborhood, and anything he could do for the good of the community.
He was known to all his friends and family as a photographer of beauty everywhere, a teacher of science and a math tutor to children, winning awards several years in a row for his heroic efforts in bringing the joy of mathematics to his students. Winston was a deacon at Park Place Baptist Church since 1967 and was bestowed the honor of Deacon Emeritus in 2013.
Winston graduated from Austin High School in 1948. He earned bachelor of science, and electrical engineering degrees from the University of Houston, and a masters in education from Sam Houston State University, where he taught for 4 years. He spent 4 years in service to our country in the U.S. Navy.
Our brother, uncle, and friend will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-9PM. A time for fellowship and celebration will be held at 1PM on Friday, August 18th at Forest Park Lawndale.
