Linda’s long remarkable life started in Houston, Texas on October 30, 1937. She spent her life in the state she loved remaining in Houston and later in Deer Park, Texas. As a child, she attended school in the Houston Independent School District beginning at JP Henderson Elementary and continuing to Stonewall Jackson Jr High where she won The American Legion Award as a ninth grader in 1953. At Stephen F. Austin High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society and member of the Scottish Brigade for three years. As a junior, she was in the Drum Corps and a Lieutenant of Bagpipe Drums in her senior year. She earned her high school diploma in 1956.
Linda continued her education at Sam Houston State Teachers College (SHSTC) where she made lifelong friends and pledged to Annie Gibbs sorority that later became Delta Zeta. She was a founding member of Delta Zeta and president of her chapter, Zeta Theta, in 1960. Linda earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching and a minor in business from SHSTC. She remained an active member of her cherished sorority Delta Zeta, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Scottish Brigade Alumnae Association throughout her life.
After college Linda had a successful career with Exxon Mobil Corporation and Friendswood Development Company where she was highly respected. She was a member of Exxon Mobil Retirees in Houston and Kerrville/Fredericksburg. Upon retirement in 2006, she fulfilled a lifelong dream and moved to Kerrville, Texas.
The Texas Hill Country held a special place in Linda’s heart. She vacationed there every summer while growing up and continued to build on those memories by spending summers there as an adult. As a result of her Texas heritage, Linda was passionate about Texas history and was a member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Daughters of the American Revolution. In Kerrville, she was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School, Cooking School and serving on various committees.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Elton and Marguerite Hollman Grant, her aunt, Freda Mae Grant, infant daughter Martha Ann West and infant nephew Stephen Grant Hyde. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanna and Jeffrey Felts, grandsons Paul Felts and Nathan Felts, sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Edwin Hyde, nephew Phil Hyde and wife Janis, great-nieces Annie Hyde, Molly Hyde, Zoe Hyde, and nephew John Hyde, great-niece Arianna Hyde and great-nephew Jackson Hyde.

Join us as we celebrate Linda’s life and share precious memories. Services will be held at Chapel of Angels at Forest Park Lawndale located at 6900 Lawndale Street in Houston on November 9, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation held immediately before at 9:00 a.m. Following the service, there will be a reception at Forest Park Lawndale for those who would like to visit and share memories of Linda. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend Randall Hillburn and Reverend Pam Traver will officiate with Jeffrey Felts, Paul Felts, Nathan Felts, Edwin Hyde, Phil Hyde, John Hyde, and Jackson Hyde serving as pallbearers.
