Linda Kay Guillen Durón

Linda Kay Guillen Durón entered eternal life on May 5, 2024. As a devout Catholic she lived preparing for her reunion with God. Linda was a faithful servant who believed dying was natural and the beginning of everlasting life; she was not afraid. She was a prayer warrior, waking up at 3 am daily to say her prayers for her family, friends, community, and the world. She completed several pilgrimages to the Holy Land embodying her commitment to God.

She was proud of her heritage and her Houston, Texas community. She was a life-long resident of Second Ward, growing up with her parents and 12 siblings at the family home on N. Saint Charles St. She completed her primary education at Our Lady of Guadalupe School and secondary education at Stephen F. Austin High School. She was a first-generation college student, graduating from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at the age of 49. She completed certifications as a Director of Religious Education and a Diocesan Catechist through the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. She completed training in the Dehonian Lay Missioners Program. During her lifetime, Linda was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Alumni Association, Vassallos de Cristo Rey, and Las Guadalupanas. Her dedication to education was exemplified in her teaching Continuing Christian Education (CCE) at Blessed Sacrament Church, teaching the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, work as a substitute teacher, and commitment to the Catholic education of her family. She taught her family the values of hard work, service, and faith. She loved learning and could be found browsing the internet for cooking and crafting inspirations, news, and the latest gadgets.

Linda loved her family tremendously. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was incredibly proud to be a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She had a great sense of humor, a contagious laughter, an admirable way of enjoying life, and a proclivity for being stubborn – she was the kind of person who did things her own way – she was determined. Linda was fond of the beach. She enjoyed floating on the waves, putting her feet in the sand, and feeding the seagulls. Linda took great pleasure in cooking for her family to bring them together, gardening and spending time outdoors, painting and decorating, crafting, and sewing custom designs and altering garments. Linda was thoughtful and considerate of others, often selflessly giving of her time, service, and donations to numerous people and organizations.

Her memory and legacy will live on in her surviving husband of 59 years, Guadalupe Nick Duron, Sr., son, Guadalupe Nicholas Duron Jr., daughter-in-law, M. Carmen Duron, grandchildren Katelynn M. Duron, Nickie V. Duron, Isabella Lynn Duron, G. Nicholas Duron, III, daughter, Linda Lilly Duron, granddaughter Nicole Lyn Nacino, grandson-in-law, Ivan M. Nacino, daughter, Jacquelynn F. Duron, daughter-in-law, Sara M. Gomez, daughter, Kelly M. Duron, son-in-law Matt Cross, and grandchildren Audrey Cross and Scarlett Cross.

A visitation for Linda will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2405 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003. A rosary service will occur Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 7:00 PM, 2405 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:30 AM, 2405 Navigation Blvd, Houston, Texas 77003. A committal service will follow Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas 77023.
