Leslie Cletus Brown Jr.

Mr. Brown was born in Houston on the 11th of February 1929, to Leslie Cletus Brown and Catherine Hamblen Brown. He graduated from Lamar High School, and attended the University of Texas.

Mr. Brown owned and operated the Cletus Brown Lumber Company in Houston until his retirement in 1966. After his retirement, Mr. Brown moved to his farm, Mossleigh, in Brookshire where he raised Thoroughbred horses, Charolais cattle, and worked as a rancher and an independent oil and gas producer. A 32 degree Mason, Mr. Brown was a member of Masonic Lodge #1189 AF & AM for 59 years, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and a 59 year member of the Shriners Temple.

He was preceded in death by his son, the late Edward Showers Brown; and his parents, Leslie Cletus Brown, and Catherine Hamblen Brown.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Showers Brown of Brookshire; a daughter, Mary Katherine Armstrong and Dee Hudgins of Brookshire, and her children, Cynthia Camille Armstrong of Austin, Catherine Stiles and her husband Shane R. Stiles of Austin, and their child, Stella Grace Stiles, Elizabeth Owens and her husband Rockford P. Owens, Jr. of Houston, and their children, Mia Isabella Giamalva, and Rockford P. Owens, III; a son, Leslie Cletus Brown, III and his wife Ann Lacey Brown of Houston, and their children, Leslie Cletus Brown, IV, Edward Showers Brown II of Houston, and Lucille Cooper Brown and Mike Lapoint of Tomball; and daughter, Betty Ann Davis of Brookshire, and her children, Leslie Ann Nemeth and Garrett Boyd of Austin, John Edward Nemeth, Hunter Louis Davis, and Caley Clare Davis all of Brookshire; his sister, Bettye Beverlye Dodd of Bellville; his sisters-in-law, Ann Showers Butler of Austin, and Nancy Showers Slaughter and her husband Lon of San Angleo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The memorial service is to be conducted at three o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, the 1st of August, in the chapel of Brookwood Community, 1752 FM 1489 South in Brookshire, with a reception following at Brookwood Tea Room.

Honored to serve as casket bearers during Wednesday’s services are L. Cletus Brown, IV, Edward Showers Brown, II, John Edward Nemeth, Hunter Louis Davis, Shane R. Stiles, Rockford P. Owens, Jr., Mike Lapoint, and Garrett Boyd.

Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
