Leonard Orville Pierce was born February 25, 1937, in Glen Flora, Texas to Corneilus Mathew Pierce and Nora Elizabeth Lowrie Pierce. His family moved to Houston in 1945 and he attended schools in the Houston Independent School District. He graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1957. Leonard received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Art Education from the University of Houston in 1964 and his masters’ degree in Administration and Supervision in Education from the University of Houston in 1971. He also received a Peace Officer certification in 1986 from the University of Houston.
Leonard married Gay Chapin on August 30, 1958. They have one daughter, Gay Lynn Pierce. Leonard was a member of Fair Haven Methodist church in the Spring Branch area where he has lived since 1969. He was a dedicated teacher for 39 years with the Houston Independent school District teaching Junior High and High School students drafting and design as well as in the Industrial Cooperative Training job program. Educating the youth of our country has always been very important to him.
Leonard was a Deputy Constable since 1975 and served as a Master Peace Officer and Bailiff for Precinct 4. He received an award for meritorious service in 2019.
Brother Pierce was raised a Master Mason in Reagan Lodge No. 1037 on October 8, 1960 and served as Worshipful Master in 1994-1995. He affiliated with Memorial Lodge, S. P. Waltrip Lodge, J.W Chandler Lodge, Katy Lodge, Home Sweet Home Lodge, and Holland Lodge. Leonard served masonry faithfully for 60 years.
Some of his many accomplishments in masonry include serving as the Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Texas,as a Grand Photographer for the Grand Lodge of Texas, received the Golden Keystone Award from the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, received the Royal Purple Service Award from the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Texas, received the distinguished Purple Triangle Award for Time, Talent, and Service, was President and Director of the Texas Knights Templar Educational Foundation, was coronated as a 33 degree Inspector General Honorary, was a charter member of Gulf Coast York Rite College, served as Deputy Grand Governor of the York Rite Sovereign College of North America, was a Past Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, served on the advisory board for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, and received the grand Cross of Color from them. In addition he completed 50 years of Drill Competition for Ruthven, Melrose, and Park Place Commandery.
Leonard loved family , his wife, working on cars, and his #1 grandson, Zachary. His life will be remembered by the many stories and memories we share together.
