Leanne was a gentle, loving spirit with a beautiful singing voice, who brought hugs and smiles to all she met. She sang in the choir at Tallowood Baptist Church from preschool through high school and participated in musical theater and choir at Memorial Middle School and Memorial High School. She participated in choir and singing competitions in Texas, New York City, and the Bahamas. She also won awards as a soloist in regional competition. She graduated from Memorial High School in 2001, and subsequently attended Landmark College and Houston Baptist University.
In addition to singing, Leanne made beautiful jewelry. As an adult, she worked as a jewelry artist, designing and creating many beautiful pieces for family, friends, and customers. She always loved make-up and recently became a Mary Kay consultant.
She loved New York City and Broadway musicals, and could often be heard singing songs from “Le Miserables” or “Rent” around the house.
She had a beautiful servant’s heart, and served the Lord by participating in multiple mission trips including trips to Montana and Budapest, Hungary. She was very humble, always thinking of others before herself. Nothing gave her more joy than giving good gifts to others and lived by the words “it is more blessed to give than receive.”
Leanne never met a stranger, putting others at ease with her conversation and sweet spirit.
Leanne is survived by her parents, Greg and Sherry Barker; sister Whitney Roberts, brother Greg and wife Amy; nephews, James and Benjamin Roberts, their father Jarrett Roberts; also, nephews Luke, Cale, and Chase Barker and niece Haley Barker.
Leanne will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 11th, from 6-8 PM at Tallowood Baptist Church, with a celebration of her life on Friday, October 12th at 11:30 AM at Tallowood Worship Center. Remembrances may be made to Tallowood Baptist Foundation, 555 Tallowood Drive, Houston, TX 77024.
