Lee was born on July 9, 1935 in Elgin, TX to parents Leandro Flores and Anuaria Cantu Flores. He reminisced of going to the movies as a young boy in downtown Elgin on a Saturday afternoon and topping it off with a link of sausage and a soda water at South Side Market for 25 cents. After his family moved to Waxahachie, TX , Lee met someone from the nearby city of Avalon who would change the course of his life for years to come: Marcelina Zavala. Lee often traveled to watch Marcy play basketball and would meet on the weekends at area dance halls to dance the night away. Even after their families moved yet again, Lee continued to drive to see Marcy in Houston before he asked for her hand in marriage. On May 26, 1962, they were married at Holy Name Catholic Church in front of their family and friends. They soon started their family with the births of Leandro Flores Jr., Anna Maria Perales (Pedro), Frank Tony Flores (Eva), Roman Zavala Flores (Myrna). With time came 8 beautiful grandchildren, Alyssa Venable (William), Aaron Perales, Jonathan Aguirre, Leandro Flores, Christian Flores, Gabriel Flores, Jayden Flores, Jillian Flores, and last – but not least – one great-grandchild, Olivia Lee Venable.
Lee worked hard to overcome adversity and to provide for his family, yet he made time to coach Little League, attend family events, and of course take Marcy dancing. Lee loved to listen to music, spend time with his grandchildren and watch his hometown football team the Dallas Cowboys. Lee took care of Marcy, and together, he and Marcy took care to grow their family with love and community, creating familial bonds which will carry forward into future generations.
Whether he was called Daddy, Pop, Grandpa or PoPo, his ability to make everyone laugh and his genuine smile will be greatly missed by us all.
On December 26th, 2023 after 61 years of marriage and a courageous battle with cancer, Mom passed away which created a void in his life that proved hard to fill but today they are dancing once more.
Lee is preceded in death by his Father and Mothers (Anuaria & Trinidad), his brother Jesse Cantu and his sister Virginia Mojica, along with many Tios , Tias, cousins, brothers-and sisters-in-law, and his father & mother-in-law.
Surviving family members include his brother Frank Flores, Sr. (Janie), sister Elvira Moreno (Alfred), sister Hortencia Ayala (Raymond), and sister Horalia Briano (Marcelino), cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, along with his children and their families.
