Keavin David McDonald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on July 19, 2023, in Houston, TX, at the age of 68. He was born on July 11, 1955, in Sherman, TX. Keavin was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Sanders McDonald, his father, Joe McDonald, and his sister, Kim McDonald.
Keavin leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen McDonald, children, Joe McDonald, Jake (Kelly) McDonald, Julia McDonald, and stepsons Nic (Amanda) Rand, and AJ (Savannah) Rand. He is also survived by his mother, Patsy McDonald, and brother, Kelly (Eva) McDonald. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Lane and Rhett McDonald.
During his time at St. Thomas High School, Keavin was a dual sport letterman earning three letters in football, and two letters in baseball. He was a two-time All-American and the 1972 Catholic Player of the Year in leading Eagle Football to consecutive state championships in 1971-72. Keavin was inducted into the St. Thomas High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
After high school graduation, Keavin attended Baylor University and was a sophomore linebacker on the 1974 Miracle on the Brazos championship team who represented the Southwest Conference in the 1975 Cotton Bowl. He was a 4 time letter recipient from Baylor University. Baylor University held a special place in Keavin's heart, as it provided him with a foundation of knowledge and values that shaped his life.
Keavin continued his education at Baylor Law School. Upon graduation, he began a three-decade law career in Houston where he eventually retired from his own private practice, specializing in bankruptcy. Keavin's career as a lawyer was a testament to his dedication and commitment to justice. He used his legal expertise to help others navigate the complexities of the law, striving to make a positive impact on their lives.
Throughout his life, Keavin embraced various passions and hobbies. He found camaraderie and endless work during his visits to the deer lease, a place he loved for nearly 30 years. Tiki Island held cherished memories for Keavin, as it provided a haven of relaxation and enjoyment for him and his loved ones.
Keavin's love for barbecue, Gary Stewart tunes, and Baylor ran deep. Whether it was singing along to his favorite songs, or smoking something on one of his many barbecue pits, Keavin’s adoration for these things were well known by all who loved him.
As we bid farewell to Keavin David McDonald, we hold dear the memories of his vibrant spirit and his passion for taking care of others. His kindness, dedication, and love for family and friends will forever be treasured. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his family and friends find solace in the moments they shared. May Keavin's memory continue to inspire us to embrace life's wonders, to cherish our loved ones, and to find joy in the simplest of pleasures.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 28th, 2:00pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home to celebrate the extraordinary life of Keavin David McDonald. All those who were touched by his presence are invited to attend and share their fondest memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Friends For Life, a Houston based animal shelter, in Keavin's honor. By contributing, we can honor Keavin's legacy of compassion and generosity.
