Her Story begins on the 9th month, 9th day, and 9th hour of 1927 in the town of Leechville, Arkansas. She was the 9th child out of 11 siblings. (By the way, she passed away on the 9th day of February.)
Her chore duties growing up were to clean the house, down to the dining room and kitchen. And when she wasn't at school or cleaning, she loved playing Jacks and Hopscotch. Around eleven or twelve years old, she began playing around on the piano (which was stored in the barn). Later on, she could even play a little on a guitar. But we all know that playing the piano was her specialty. God gave her the gift of playing by ear. If you could hum or sing it, she could play it.
Before we go on, let's visit one of her school days. The story goes that there was this "bully" at school picking on a kid. Kathryn hated a bully and one day she had - had enough. She hit her and blooded her nose and preceded to sit on her… and then peed on her. Kathryn got sent to the principal's office and was told "NOT" to do it again!
The Hardy children had a band. She played the piano or guitar. She would sneak out of her bedroom to go to the Community Hall and play so her friends could dance. One night she got caught coming back through the window to her bedroom when one of her shoes fell and hit the floor. Her mom was standing in the doorway when she came in the window. Oops!
In 1944, she married Clyde Folkes. They began their life together and shortly came David, then Gary, then Johnny and finally Charlotte. In 1969, she married Leo Authement and a whole new journey began. They shared 28 years together.
Kathryn was a member of North Central Baptist Church for over 45 years. She served in many areas throughout the years, but she truly loved working in the food pantry and clothes closet. In February, 2005, she left her beloved North Central and joined Lighthouse Baptist Church on Frick Rd. with Johnny and Glenda. It was an adjustment for her but she quickly made new friends, while keeping in touch with her old ones.
This is just a very small look at her life. Anyone who knew her, would agree that besides serving her Lord through one of her churches, her greatest joy was her FAMILY. Beginning with her children, then her grandchildren, and then her great grandchildren, and finally great great grandchildren. She loved each one. The hours she spent doing laundry, changing diapers, cooking, teaching them to drive, spoiling them, etc. and etc. She loved each one.
