Kathleen (Kathy) Gates Driskell loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away February 18, 2022, in Houston, Texas. She was born, in Houston, October 3, 1952 to Jimmie and Dorothy Gates. After graduating from Spring Branch High School and attending Houston Baptist University, she married the love of her life, Joseph (Joe) Driskell. They met on a blind date and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Kathy and Joe built a wonderful family consisting of three children: Christopher, Jason, and Valerie.
While mainly working to raise and take care of her family, she was also employed with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc., MetroNational, and Spring Branch Independent School District. For over 15 years, she attended hundreds of football and baseball games, dance lessons and recitals, and music concerts, in support of her children. Later in life, she provided the same support to her grandchildren. Her priority was always her family before herself. Kathy’s hobbies included driving fast, photography, art work, attending fine arts performances, stargazing, and traveling to the beach. She was always excited to see a shooting star!
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Driskell of Houston, son Christopher Driskell (spouse Delanie) of Liberty Hill, Texas, son Jason Driskell (spouse Fred Walters) of Rockport, Texas, and daughter Valerie Driskell Therrien (spouse Mark) of Cypress, Texas; her grandchildren Caleb Driskell, Nathaniel Therrien, Colby Driskell, and Nicholas Therrien; brothers Jerry Gates (spouse Linda) of Jersey Village, Texas and James Gates (spouse Deborah) of Cypress, Texas; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 24th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079. Funeral services and interment will be on Friday, February 25th at 10:30 am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum. Presiding over the service is Deacon Mike Jones, of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Readings will be performed by Mr. Christopher Driskell and Mr. Shannon Stary. Pallbearers include her sons-in-law Fred Walters and Mark Therrien; grandsons Caleb Driskell, Nathaniel Therrien, Colby Driskell, and Nicholas Therrien.
