Karen’s professional accomplishments were numerous as an international expert in energy insurance. She worked for Marsh, Inc. in downtown Houston for 27 years. She was a true survivor. She battled breast cancer for over two decades. She survived the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center where she was working. She was active in the Susan G. Komen Walk and numerous other breast cancer events. She loved all sports, with a special love of the Michigan State Spartans, her alma mater. She traveled the world, loved all dogs especially Boston Terriers, reading, the color pink, staying active and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her niece, Stacey Blundell. Besides her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Stephen Gwinn Hornberger; her children: Dr. John Hornberger and his wife Dr. Sierra Hornberger, Mark Hornberger and Claire Hornberger; her sister, Glenda McCreight; her sister-in-law, Jamie Blundell and her husband Ted Blundell; and her nephew, Phillip Blundell.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Vigil at 7:00 PM in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive, Houston, Texas 77024. Private family interment.
