Julie's parents, Salvadore and Paola Panepinto immigrated to the United States from Alia, Italy in 1905 and they and their 9 surviving children became naturalized citizens. A tenth child had died as an infant. The family settled in Houston and while Julie was a toddler her mother died, leaving her father to raise the children.
Julie went on to marry, have 3 children, and devote herself to the well-being of her family and community. She served on the Spring Branch ISD PTA many years and became PTA president. She was active with her husband in the Boy Scouts and with St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. Julie moved to College Station in 1998 and lived independently in her own home or apartment until the time of her passing. She made new friends throughout her life and pursued her love of sports and music.
Although she never forgot her hometown Houston Astros, Julie was an avid fan of all Aggie sports, especially baseball and women's basketball. Janice Limerick was a special and attentive friend who kept Julie current on the Aggie game schedules. A ukulele virtuoso, Julie could pick out an old tune, write down the music and words and accompany herself on the ukulele.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, J. Edward Martin, her son, Gary J. Martin, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Richard E. Martin, her daughter, Judy Strauss and her husband Woody Scott, and her daughter-in-law, Lynn Martin. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews of her large extended family also survive her.
Julie valued her independence and appreciated her longevity. She was a cheerful and loving person who was devoted to her family and loyal to her friends.
