Joyce M. Ballard

Joyce graduated from Tyler High School in 1954. She got her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She worked for the City of Houston for thirty-six years as a Hygienist at MHMR Clinic. She was loved by so many people she worked with, and enjoyed her time working with handicapped children and young adults.

Joyce was previously married to Stanley Slaten from 1957-1970, and together they had three children. She later married Lloyd J. Ballard, and they were married 32 years until his death in 2004.

Joyce was predeceased in death by her husband Lloyd J. Ballard, her mother Sylvia McKinney, her father Leo McKinney and her step-son David "Andy" Ballard. She is survived by her son Chris Slaten and wife Barbara, son Rex Slaten and wife Cissie, daughter Kim Fendley and husband Clyde, Sister Annette Blair. She is also survived by her step-children, son, Paul Ballard and wife Laurie, John Ballard, and daughter RuthAnn Borgh and husband William. She is survived by four grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, six great grandchildren and fourteen step-great grandchildren.

Joyce loved to laugh, and enjoyed practical jokes and teasing people. She was active and always up for an adventure. Her zest for life and her joy was contagious. She loved the theater, cruises, and playing games of all sorts with her friends and family.

Joyce "Mamaw" as she was known to many, loved her children and her grandchildren with all of her heart. Anyone could say that when she became a great-grandmother her joy was complete. Joyce loved the Lord and was ready when God called her home to be with him in glory.

Her final resting place will be at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079, on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00AM. We will have a Celebration of Life for her on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Brookdale on 11900 Barryknoll Lane. We are also so blessed to know that this celebration is not only to honor her life, but to celebrate what would have been her eight-sixth birthday.

Honorary Pallbearers are Clint Slaten, Clark Slaten, Arron Slaten, Paul Warner, Kale Slaten, Cade Slaten Cash Slaten, Ford Barnes and Claye Slaten.
