Joy Marie Lowry

Joy’s childhood years were spent in several small towns between East Texas and Houston, with many of those years being in the town of Maydelle. She met the love of her life, Walter, when she was 14 years old. They married February 13, 1947 and settled in Houston where they soon began their family. Joy devoted her time to raising her children and running her household and that is where she found her purpose and contentment.

She was a homemaker and secretary/bookkeeper for J & L Roofing Company. Joy was a member of Magnolia’s First Baptist Church and the Garden Oaks Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Throughout her life, Joy pursued many interests including bowling, playing spades, sewing, cooking, and spending countless hours on all types of puzzles. The thing she loved the most, however, was spending time and laughing with family and friends. She had a heart for people and a gift for loving everyone she met, and in turn, was loved by them.

Joy is preceded in death by her parents, O.C. and Alva Beard; brother, O.C. Beard; sister, Elizabeth Henderson; Husband, Walter B. Lowry and son, Terry Lee Lowry.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons, Lance Lowry and wife Beverly of Houston, Clay Lowry and wife Kimberly of Magnolia; grandchildren, Douglas Lowry and wife Nikole (Tomball), Tamra Moritz (Spring), Brent Morgan (Arkansas), Laykin Luker and husband, Geoff (Tomball), Logan Bain and husband, Brian (Tomball), Lawson Lowry (Magnolia); great grandchildren, Kyndall Moritz, Alyssa Rowan and husband Tucker, Aiden Lowry and Lynlie Luker.

Serving as pallbearers are Douglas Lowry, Aiden Lowry, Lawson Lowry, Brent Morgan, Geoff Luker and Brian Bain.

A visitation for Joy will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039 with a funeral service to follow and begin promptly at 1:30 PM in the Grand Chapel at Brookside with the comittal service to follow at Brookside Memorial Park.
