With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Josephine Martinez Melchor our remarkable matriarch, devoted family member, and cherished friend. Born on September 18, 1924, in Fulshear Texas, she lived an extraordinary life spanning 100 years. Josephine lost her battle to recover after hip replacement surgery at her daughter’s home on Thursday October 3, 2024 in Humble,Texas, surrounded by her children.
Josephine was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and love. Her kindness, spirit and lightheartedness touched her entire family and anyone who got to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories, values, and traditions. Her 100th birthday was celebrated with her extended family and a live mariachi band. She loved live music, going to the casino, watching the birds in the spring, cats, flowers and gardening. She was married for 35 years to Benito until his passing 41 years ago, and had worked side by side with him in his farming business. Together they raised 9 children.
She is survived by her children, Mary and James Roberts, Benny Melchor, Susan and Stephen Fulton, Gloria and Lionel Woolard, Linda and Edward Patson, Jessie Melchor, Sandy Melchor, Margaret and Arnold Alvarez, and Dale and Frankie McNutt; 18 grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Jason, John Gary, Champian, Alyssia, Lionel Jr., Douglas, Joseph, Jennifer, Josephine, Juliana, John Jr., Natalie, Joshua, Adam, Christopher, and Nicholas; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Flores; brother-in-law, Henry Reyna; along with many step grand and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Benito Melchor; son, Johnny Melchor; daughter-in-law, Ginger Melchor; parents, Juan and Martina Martinez; sisters, Angelina Munoz, Janie Reyna, Maria Farris, and Margaret Martinez; brother, Domingo Martinez.
Rest in peace, Dear Mom, Grandma, Gogo, Big Grandma, Aunt Fina, and Josephine. Your love will forever be in our hearts.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, October 11, 2024 viewing at 11am, Rosary 1:30pm, Service 2:00pm. Graveside 3:00pm at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039.
