Jose was a very hardworking man and a great provider for his family. He would get up at 2 in the morning to work as a truck driver or he would work on cars at the yard. He enjoyed going to the beach and eating fresh watermelon. Although he would cut it up for everyone, he would make sure that he always took the bigger piece. On the weekends, he would go to the market and buy fruit. When he would go to church, he would go eat Chinese food right after. Jose was an adventurous man. He liked going fishing, going into the woods, and planting, especially orange trees. Jose was an avid family man. He taught his daughter how to follow her dreams, how to BBQ, drive an 18-wheeler and how to stick weld. Together, they would sneak in candy whenever they would go to the movies. He raised Maria to always respect her elders and would eventually teach the same to his grandson, Zayden. One of his favorite things to do was to surprise his grandchild with either candy or toys. Jose had the biggest heart for children, even if they weren't his and always knew he was meant to be a father. His favorite music genre was tejano music and his favorite singer was Juan Gabriel. He enjoyed going to Mexico and going to a specific restaurant to eat tacos. He especially loved going to see the monuments. His family will forever cherish those moments and will miss him dearly.
Jose is survived by his former spouse Rosa Cervantes, his daughter Maria Paz Cervantes, his sister Beatrice "Betty", and his grandchild Zayden Dillehay.
A memorial service for Jose will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022.
