JORGE H. CEDILLO (also known by many of his peers as the Man of Steel), age 82, devout Catholic and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, who was born in Empalme Escobedo, Guanajuato, Mexico, passed away on January 17, 2016, after waging heroic battles with injuries sustained in a serious work-related accident and many illnesses, including bladder cancer in 1995 and lung cancer in 2008. He was heartbreakingly predeceased on October 5, 2010, by his beloved wife of 47 years, Martha Elva Cedillo; He was survived by his daughter, Janie Cedillo-Shuffler, and husband, Doug; son, Jorge Cedillo and wife, Christi, son Lorenzo Cedillo; and daughter, Claudia Cedillo-Rodriguez and husband, Eduardo; grandchildren: Lorenzo, Vanessa, Alejandra, Georgie, Madeleine, and Eduardo; and his great grandchildren, Marilyn Renee and Adrian Jacob. He was also predeceased by his parents, Lorenzo Cedillo and Maria Soledad Hernandez de Cedillo and his brother Fernando Cedillo. He was also survived by his sisters, Margarita Cedillo Vda. de Romero and Lourdes Cedillo Padilla, and his brothers, Octavio H. Cedillo, Arturo Cedillo, Lorenzo A. Cedillo, and Jose A. Cedillo and many nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. While in Mexico, as a teenager and a young adult, he worked on the railroad assisting his father, who was a railroad operator, and subsequently engaged in careers with Time Life, Televisa, and as a hospital records administrator for ISSSTE in Mexico City, Mexico. When he and his family migrated to the United States in 1974, he was forced to work at refineries and as a technician installing automobile air conditioning units in new vehicles for a contractor for Datsun Motor Company due to the language barrier until 1980, when he sustained serious injuries in a work-related accident, which rendered him disabled.
His celebration of life services have been scheduled as follows:
Viewing will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 5:00 p.m., at Advantage Funeral Services, 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081; 713-662-2030.
The viewing at church will take place at 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister, Texas, followed by mass at 10:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery, located at 1101 Antoine, Houston, TX.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Drs. Ralph, Botto, Williams, Garcia, Tantuco, Lacson, Lee, and Ponce and to all the medical and administrative staff of Park Plaza Hospital. We are also deeply grateful to all of our family members and friends for their love and support at this very difficult time.
