Johnny Lee Gray, aged 79, of Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2023. Born in Lucky, Louisiana, to Turfe Gray and Marie Gray (Lloyd), Johnny embarked on a dedicated journey shaped by compassion, service, and dedication.
Following his studies, Johnny commenced a lengthy career as a machinist for Kraft General Foods (Maxwell House Coffee) until his well-earned retirement. He welcomed four children into the world during his first marriage - Gregory Gray, Daryl Gray (Lisa), Johnnie Lacy, and Stacy Gray. Later, he entered into a second marriage with his late wife Beverly Gray. He welcomed a daughter Latonya White (Gary) and son Eric Burns.
A pillar of faith and service, Johnny embraced the role of a devoted deacon at Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, offering his heart and soul to the community until his passing. His love for culinary arts shone brightly as he delighted in cooking for friends and family. He found solace and joy in activities such as hunting, fishing, and nurturing his garden, generously sharing the fruits of his labor -fresh produce and deer sausage -with neighbors and fellow congregants.
Johnny is survived by his brothers Willie Lee and Sammie Lee Gray, as well as a lineage of loving descendants including his children - Gregory Gray, Daryl Gray, Johnnie Lacy, Stacy Gray, La Tonya White, and Eric Burns. Additionally, his legacy is carried on by a circle of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, imprinting a profound sense of love and care that will forever resonate within the lives he touched.
In honoring Johnny Lee Gray's spirit of giving, contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are welcomed in lieu of flowers. This gesture pays homage to his commitment to supporting causes that uplifted the lives of children and echoed his generous spirit of giving back.
