To the Spence Family- I worked at HRH with Mr. Spence.  He was in the bond business just like my dad.  He had alot of great insurance stories to tell but the ones I enjoyed the most were about his family and I heard about that german shepherd too, he kept a picture of her in his office. He really loved that dog.  Mr. Spence loved his baseball hats, pens and coffee mugs.  He will be missed by all.

There are a lot of great memories from knowing and working with Jack for 15 years. We shared a lot of things in common, our heritage- Scottish, 50+ years in the insurance business,work ethics, integrity and love for our families. For years we visited almost daily, taking a few minutes out of our work day. We shared good times and bad but mostly stories that were unique. Two of Jack's favorite topics were family and fishing. One of the family stories involved a German Sheperd that Jack felt was a genius in the dog world. He told of the time the dog singled out a young guest that he felt was being unruly. Taking the young boy by the wrist he escorted him to the door encouraging him to leave the premiises. This was a story typical of Jack's dry sense of humor.
Another favoite story involved a fishing trip. It seems he and Linda were wading in the surf. After wading out to the second bar the tide came in unexpectedly and the water was immediately over Linda's head.A large wave caught her and all he could see was her hair as she washed by him. Grabbing her by the hair they both made a safe trip back to the beach. A close call. I could write a book on his many stories but this is just a sample,

I have known Jack since 1967.We worked for different surety companies and then we both were with different insurance agency. Never once did I call on any of Jack's accounts. He did the same for me. In fact he called on one of my accounts and did not know I wrote their business. Doing the visit with the account he learned I was there agent. Jack asked for his card back and told them he would not have called on them had he known I was there agent. 
Great and good person and he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the entire Spence Family,

Jack was a good friend, a well respected man and admired by many.  He was always there for us when we needed him.  We are truly saddened and our hearts are heavy for your loss.  He will surely be missed.  God Speed.

Linda and family, my deepest condolences to you all.  I have many fond memories of working with Jack (Mr. Spence).  I remember one time I had done something wrong and he talked to me. I actually felt good after the talk but I knew never to do that wrong again. You’d know it was a Monday, Wednesday or Friday because Jack would be wearing black shoes, saving his brown ones for Tuesdays and Thursdays; he always said they last longer that way.  And, he had a knack for finding the longest cars in the world, it never surprised me when he’d come around the corner driving another “boat”. When he talked about Linda he always said “his bride”. Those are some of the things I remember about Jack. He will be missed.
