He was born in Saltillo, Coahila, Mexico on September 25, 1920, one of six children. A loving son, John dearly loved his mother, Eulogia “Mayaya” Romo. He was married on March 30, 1942 and was a dutiful and loving husband to Beatrice Perez Sanchez for 78 years. Their marriage was a bond that nothing or no one could divide. He was always-- and always will be-- her “Johnny.”
John did not have the opportunity for much formal education: He was first called to serve his family, leaving middle school to work and help the household as a young boy in Houston during the Great Depression. Then, as a young man, he was called on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II 1942-1945 where he was awarded various honors including the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star.
He returned from the War and set out to serve his new family with Beatrice for the rest of his remaining years. John became a skilled craftsman working in the commercial fixture manufacturing business through “retirement” but continued to tend to some investment properties acquired with Beatrice over the years.
While John was a tireless worker, he also made time for golf, watching baseball and good movies, and some car restoration as well. He was also a member of the American Legion Harrisburg Post 472.
John was selfless. A good and kind man to all who knew him. His hard work and dedication to his family earned him a good number of restful years, more than most. Rest easy now, Dad. You’ll live forever in our hearts!
John is survived by his wife Beatrice, his son John P. Sanchez and wife Mary Helen, daughter Guadalupe Frances Reed and husband Gary, son Louis A. Sanchez, and son Armando E. Sanchez and wife Eva. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren Chris Sanchez, Karen Sanchez, Veronica Hernandez, Robert R. Mendoza, Jaime Mendoza, Alex Sanchez, Camryn Sanchez, John Sanchez, Patrick Smolka, Gabriela Sanchez, Ela Sanchez, and Merilee (Reed) Iverson; and four great-grandchildren Sophia Sanchez, Annika Iverson, Aria Iverson, and Austin Iverson. He is preceded in death by his parents Francisco Sanchez Covarruvias and Eulogia Romo; brothers Mario Sanchez, Alberto Sanchez, Arthur Sanchez; sisters Socorro Suarez, Carmen Boice; and grandson John Sanchez III.
