John Birsen Roach III was born on April 3, 1980 in Shamrock, Texas. John died peacefully on September 3rd, 2020 after valiantly fighting colon cancer. He is survived by his wife, Meredith Low Roach, mother Cheri M. Gross, father John B. Roach Jr. and step-mother Susan S. Roach, step-father Steven M. Gross (Mickey), sisters: Julie Hollberg (Tracy Vettese), Sarah Gross and brother David Gross (Jaime Fell), grandmother Ann Roach, mother-in-law Martha Low, brother-in-law John Low, nephews: Spencer and William Hollberg, Cannon and Haden Low, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
John was in the first graduating class at the International School of the Americas in San Antonio (Class of 1998). While in high school his poem “A Blank Page” was published in The National Library of Poetry-Seasons of Laughter 1997. He received his bachelor’s degree with high honors in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA (Class of 2002). There he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he enjoyed his time with his SAE brothers.
Upon graduation John accepted an electrical engineering position with Carter & Burgess Engineering in Houston. In 2007 John advanced his career by joining Burr Computer Environments Inc. as an Electrical Engineer P.E. and Project Site Manager. He loved his job and working with his Burr business associates. Within this role, he travelled throughout the United States and abroad working diligently with clients and contractors. He had a way of creatively getting the job done even when faced with obstacles. John had a passion for Engineering and loved to discuss/teach the principles he had learned with his extensive experience in the field.
John lived his life to the fullest. On July 3, 2013 on a Colorado mountain, he proposed to the love of his life, Meredith. They were married in 2014 and built a wonderful life together with their dog, Dexter. Some of their favorite times were traveling extensively, being outdoors (hiking mountains, fishing at the lake, long walks at the park), trying local foods and spirits while traveling, and enjoying down time together at home. John also always loved a good whiskey and having a fun time out with his friends. He mastered the work hard/play hard way of life! He was extremely close with his family and an amazing son and brother. He was loyal and caring and would do anything for the people he loved. John was competitive whether he was playing games with his family, video games with people around the world or figuring how to get the best deal. His smile, companionship and zest for life will be missed immensely by his family, friends, and business associates.
John was a member of the Houston Hillel Synagogue. He was welcomed into his heavenly home by his grandparents: John B. Roach Sr., Anna and Billy Steele, Bea and Al Mengler, and Florence and Jack Gross and his favorite dog, Dexter.
