John was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on August 3, 1929 to Clarence and Verna Reed. He graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1946, at the age of 15. Shortly after graduating from high school he moved to Houston.
John began working in Houston in 1948 in the printing industry and retired in 1994. He worked as a linotype operator and pressman. John coached Little League baseball for many years on the north side of Houston. He was an active member and Sunday school teacher at Lindale Baptist Church. When he was not spending time with his family, his favorite thing to do was go bowling and watch the Astros. He lived his last 24 years next to his beloved wife.
John was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Verna Reed; sister Pauline Langford; and brother James Reed.
John is survived by his wife of 24 years Reina (Margarita); sons Craig Reed and wife Joan; Chris Reed and wife Brenda; daughters Janet Chalmers and husband Scott; Jeana Bellinger and husband Eric; Nancy Andino; Gabby Andino and partner Brooke Martinez; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
John was also survived by his sisters-in-law Tonita Chavez and husband Pedro, and Doris Ellen Reed; brother-in-law Victor Cruz; five nephews; three nieces; and dear friend Doris Reed.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Reed, Clifton Reed, Jeff Reed, John Bellinger, Pancho Cruz, Pedro Chavez, Alex Chavez and Douglas Cruz.
Visitation for John will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Brookside Funeral Home located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX at 12:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 2:30 p.m. A brief graveside service will be held immediately following the funeral service.
