John Glynn Dyess

Glynn was a proud native Houstonian who attended Pershing Jr. High School and was in the first graduating class of Bellaire High School 1959/1960 where he excelled in multiple sports including football and baseball. “It would have been basketball too, but he was too short” as his close friend, Billy Burge has said. Also noteworthy, he was the 6th grade crossing guard for Henderson Elementary - he liked to be in charge early in life. After high school, Glynn walked on to the Texas Tech football team and was a Red Raider before finishing his B.A. in Business at the University of Houston in 1967. Following these accomplishments, he worked at Shell Oil Co., Crown Zellerbach and Russell Steel. Glynn formed his own company, Dyco Pipe and Tube.

Glynn was definitely not an all work and no play kind of guy. He loved a good bottle of wine at his favorite restaurant Tony’s and margaritas at Molina’s. He enjoyed family trips to New Orleans, New York, Cabo and many other great adventures with his Connie. His natural athleticism allowed him to not only keep his “boyish figure” it kept him young at heart. He loved to play golf winning many trophies along the way and loved playing with Chris and Bennett until they could out drive him and beat him. He loved to ski and was a hotshot on the black diamond slopes. Over the years he had special trips with Mike, Stacia and Bubba to see who get downhill 1st. Glynn and Connie spent winters at their home in Colorado and summers at their place in Galveston “Paradyess.” He was a member of Lakeside Country Club and Red Sky Golf Club in Colorado. Like a true blue Houstonian, he loved his cowboy boots and his hat and was a Lifetime Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on the International Committee.

Glynn cherished his lifelong friends - his fellow “legends” in their own minds. Nelson Wolff, Billy Burge and Ronnie Lohr who were always there for him - especially during these past six difficult years. A special thank you goes to Compassionate Caregivers Rick Ramirez and his wonderful group of ladies who took such good care of Glynn. A LIFE WELL LIVED - HE WAS ONE OF A KIND!

Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Dyess, and nephew, Brad Dyess “Bubba.” He is survived by his wife, Connie Carroll Dyess; stepson, George Christoper Carroll and wife, Jan; his precious grandson, Bennett Carroll; his “special girl” granddaughter, Georgia Carroll; niece, Stacia Dyess and her daughter, Bethany.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from ten o’clock until eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 15th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to immediately follow the visitation also held in the Jasek Chapel.

The family will gather at a later date for a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
